聖書：エゼキエル 37:12-14；詩編130；ローマ 8:8-11；ヨハネ 11:1-48
今日の聖書のテーマは「命」です。聖書において「命」という言葉は、特別で深い意味を持っています。この命は私たちの魂を命と愛で満たしてくださる神様ご自身の命です。私たちは洗礼によって、このすばらしい「命」の賜物を頂きました。第二朗読で聖パウロが語るように、神様の霊が私たちの心に入り、私たちのうちに宿ります。そして私たちはキリストに属する者となります。
命を受けることによって、私たちは神様の子、とても深く愛されている子どもとなります。世の中の法律上の養子縁組とは違います。神様の命が私たちの内に宿り、父である神様が本当の意味で私たちの父親になってくださるのです。なぜなら、私たちが父の命をいただいているからです。そして父である神様は、私たち一人ひとりにこう語っておられます。「あなたは私の目に尊く、私はあなたを愛している。恐れるな、私はいつもあなたと共にいる。」（イザヤ43章）
この命を私たちのために勝ち取ってくださったのはイエスです。イエスご自身が「わたしは命である」と言われます。
神様は、私たちの優しくあわれみ深い父となり、イエスは私たちの友、そして兄弟となってくださいます。
今日の私たちにとって、イエスはどのような友でしょうか。福音書がその答えを示しています。イエスはラザロとその姉妹マルタとマリアの親しい友でした。彼らは私たちの代表です。イエスは私たちにも同じ友情を与えてくださいます。ラザロが死んだとき、イエスは墓の前に立たれました。マルタとマリアは深い悲しみの中で泣いていました。聖書には「イエスは涙を流された」（ヨハネ11・35）と書かれています。イエスが涙を流される場面を思い描きましょう。その涙は上辺のものでなく、深いあわれみ、愛、友情から流れた涙です。イエスは今日の私たちにも同じように寄り添ってくださいます。
イエスはラザロに新しい命を与えられました。私たちもまた、新しい命を授かっています。その命はラザロが墓から出てきたような目を見張るようなものではありません。しかし、私たちが受けている命は「本物」です。
このすばらしい「命」という賜物を心から神様に感謝しましょう。
イエスは今日私たちにこう語っておられます。「わたしは復活であり、命である。わたしを信じる者は、今も、永遠に、生きる。」
そしてイエスはマルタに、そして私たちにも問いかけられます。「あなたは、この命を与えるわたしを信じるか。」
私たちも心に問いかけ、こう答えましょう。「主よ、信じます。」

5th Sunday LENT Year A 22/3/26
Scripture: Ezek 37:12-14; Psalm 130; Rom 8:8-11; John 11:1-48
The theme of today’s Scripture is ‘LIFE’. In the scripture, the word ‘LIFE’ has a special and deep meaning. It is the LIFE OF GOD himself who fills our soul with this life and love. At Baptism, we receive this wonderful gift of life. As St. Paul tells us in the second reading, the Sprit of God enters our hearts to make God’s home within our heart. And we belong to Jesus.
We receive this life and as a result we become a child of God – a much loved child. This is not like a worldly legal adoption – the life of God enters us God becomes our real father, because we have the life of the Father. And God our Father says to each of us his children : “You are precious in my eyes. I love you. Fear not. I am always with you.” (Isaiah 43)
Jesus has won this life for us. Jesus himself says : “I am the life.”
God becomes our kind and compassionate Father. Jesus becomes our friend and brother.
What kind of a friend is Jesus to us today? The Gospel gives us the answers. Jesus was a close friend of Lazarus and his two sisters – Martha and Mary. They are our representatives. Jesus gives us the same friendship. When Lazarus died, Jesus stood before the tomb. Martha and Mary were crying in sorrow. As the scripture says : “Jesus wept.” (John 11:35) Let us really ponder this scene of the tears of Jesus. They were not superficial tears of the sky, but from a very deep compassion, love and friendship. Jesus is the same to us today.
Jesus gives new life to Lazarus. We too receive new life. It is not spectacular like Lazarus coming out of the tomb. But the life we receive is REAL.
Let us thank God for this wonderful gift of LIFE.
Jesus says to us today : “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes me will have that life now and for all eternity.”
Then Jesus challenges Martha and us : “Do you believe in me and that life?” Let us ponder and then reply : “I believe.”
But maybe add the prayer of the father whose son had epilepsy. “Load, I believe, please help me in my doubt and unbelief.”
