聖書： イザヤ 49：3-6 詩編40 １コリント１：1-3 ヨハネ １:29-34
日本の教会には特別な「言葉」があります。例えば、「射祷（しゃとう）」。これは、弓から放たれた矢が的に向かって行くように、まっすぐ神に向かって届く非常に短い祈りです。これらの「射祷」は通常、聖書から引用されています。例えば、「主よ、来てください」（マラナタ）などです。
長崎の原爆で有名な永井隆医師は、医師として多忙な生活を送りながらも、毎日聖書から短い祈りを選び、それを心に留めていました。私たちも彼に倣いましょう。
今日のイザヤ書の聖書朗読には、もう一つの「射祷」があります。それは、
「わたしの神こそ、わたしの力。」です。
この祈りについて考えてみましょう。
「わたしの神」：これは、「わたしはあなたがたを友と呼ぶ。」と語りかけてくださる、私たちの神イエスへの親しい挨拶です。イエスは私たち一人ひとりの名前を呼んでくださいます。イエスは私たち一人ひとりのために命を捧げてくださいました。それが愛です。
「わたしの力」：私たち人間は弱いものです。神から力を受けるためには、自分の弱さを認めなければなりません。イエスは、私たちの人間性を、その弱さを経験されました。イエスは、私たちがどれだけ力を必要としているかをご存知です。人間の力で十分だと思い込んで、傲慢になってはいけません。それは、必要な力を受ける妨げになります。
毎回のミサの初めに、私たちは皆で「わたしは、思い、ことば、行い、怠りによって、たびたび罪を犯しました。」と祈り、人間の弱さを認めます。
イエスが私たちに与えてくださったいのちの道を、自分の力だけで歩むことはできません。その必要不可欠な助けを求めるなら、イエスは喜んで力を与えてくださいます。
聖パウロはこう言っています。「わたしを強めてくださる方のお陰で、わたしにはすべてが可能です。」（フィリピの信徒への手紙 4:13）
そしてコリントの信徒への手紙二 12:10でパウロはこう言っています。「わたしは弱いときにこそ強いからです。」
イエスご自身もこう言っています。「わたしを離れては、あなたがたは何もできないからである。」（ヨハネによる福音書 15:5）
今日の詩篇40篇では、「わたしはせつに神を呼び求め、神は、耳を傾けてわたしの叫びを聞き入れられた。神はわたしの口に新しい歌を、神への賛美の歌を授けられた。」と祈ります。
今週は、この美しい「射祷」について味わいましょう。一日中、何度も唱えましょう。

The church in Japan has some special ‘Church words’. For example: ‘Arrow shooting prayer’. This is a very short prayer that goes straight up to God like an arrow shot from a bow to target. These ‘arrow prayers’ are usually taken from the Bible. For example: ‘Come, Lord Jesus’ (Maranatha)
Doctor Nagai Takashi of Nagasaki Bomb fame, each day chose such a short prayer from the Bible and recalled it during his busy life as a doctor. Let us imitate him.
In today’s Bible reading from Isaiah, we have another ‘arrow prayer’. It is
‘MY GOD ALONE is MY STRENGTH’
Let us consider this prayer.
“MY GOD” This is a warm greeting to our God Jesus who says to each of us: “I call you my friend.” Jesus calls each of us by name. Jesus gave up his life for each of us – that is love!
“MY STRENGTH” We humans are weak. We need to acknowledge our weakness to receive strength from God. Jesus our God has experienced our humanity, with its weakness. Jesus knows how much we need strength. Let us not be proud, thinking human strength is enough. That would be an obstacle to receiving the necessary strength.
At the beginning of each Mass, we all together acknowledge that human frailty when we pray together saying “We have sinned in thought, word, deed and omission to do good.”
We cannot walk the path of life that Jesus has given us just using our own human strength. If we ask for that essential help Jesus gives strength to us gladly.
St Paul says: “I can do all things in Christ who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13)
And in 2 Corinthians 12:10 Paul says: “When I acknowledge that I am weak, then I am strong.”
Jesus himself says: “Without me, you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
In today’s Psalm 40 we pray “I waited, I waited for the Lord, and he stopped down. The Lord heard my cry. The Lord put a new song into my mouth.”
This week let us ponder this beautiful short ‘arrow prayer’. During the day let us repeat it often.
“MY GOD ALONE IS MY STRENGTH”
