十戒は今も有効です！その中でも最初で最も重要な戒めはこうです：「わたしは主、あなたの神である。あなたはわたしのほかに神があってはならない」（出エジプト記 20:3）
旧約聖書において、目に見えない神ですが、ユダヤ人は唯一の真の神を敬いました。一方、異教の民はバアル、ベルゼブル、モレク、マモンなどの神々を崇めていました。マモンは「富と物質の神」とされていました。これが、今日の福音でイエスが語られる言葉の背景です：「あなたがたは、神と富とに仕えることはできない」（ルカ 16:13）
私たちはイエスに従う者であり、イエスの道を歩んでいます。しかし、私たちが生きている社会は物質主義的です。（初期のキリスト者たちもローマ帝国の中で同じような状況でした）この世にはこの世の価値観がありますが、それはイエスの価値観ではありません。私たちはイエスの証し人となるように召されています。闇の中の光となるように召されています。この世の富や価値に重きを置くのでなく、霊的なものを大切にするように召されています。イエスは、表面的な価値に満ちた世界の中で、私たちに深い意味を与えてくださいます。
しかし、富や物質そのものが悪であるわけではありません。イエスは私たちに問いかけます：「あなたが最も大切にしているものは何か？あなたの生活の中心は何か？何に最も重きを置いているのか？」
テレビの広告や番組は、社会の価値観を映し出しています。食べ物、美容製品、快適な暮らし…。現代のマモンの神とは何でしょうか？より多くのお金、株式、物品、勤めている会社、スポーツチームを神のように崇める人もいます。趣味、SNSへの好奇心、快適さを最優先にする人もいます。
繰り返しますが、これらのもの自体は悪ではありません。しかし、イエスは私たちに問いかけます：「それらが、あなたの一日の中で最も重要なものになっていないか？」
イエスは私たちに、神様を第一にするように求めています。神様はあなたにとって「ナンバーワン」でしょうか？イエスを最優先にしているでしょうか？私たちはどの道を選んで歩んでいるでしょうか？
今日のたとえ話で、イエスは不正な管理人の道を称賛しているのではありません。イエスは、私たちがイエスの示す道を歩むために、物質に向けるのと同じくらいの情熱と努力を霊的なものに注ぐように求めているのです。
イエスの道を歩むための具体的な方法を見てみましょう：
- イエスとのつながりを保つことが必要です。イエスは人生の旅路を共に歩んでくださいます。祈りは絶対に必要です。朝にはイエスに挨拶し、「今日もあなたと共に歩みたいです」と伝えましょう。
- 一日の終わりに、今日頂いたすべてのことに対しイエスに感謝を伝えましょう。もし罪を犯したことがあれば、「ごめんなさい」とイエスに伝えましょう。長い祈りは必要ありません。自分の言葉で話しましょう。友人に話すように。大切なのは、つながりを持つことです。

Scripture: Amos 8:4-7; Psalm 113; 1 Tim. 2:1-8; Luke 16:1-13
The 10 Commandments are still valid! The first, and most important Commandment is : “I am the Load, your God. You are to have no other gods before me.” (Exodus 20:3)
In the Old Testament, the Jews honored the one and only true God, even though God could not be seen by human eyes. The Pagan nations had gods such as Baal, Beelzebul, Moloch and Mammon.
Mammon was the god of money, and goods. This is the background to the words of Jesus to us in today’s Gospel. “You cannot serve both God and money.” (Luke 16:13)
We are followers of Jesus and we walk his path. But we live in a materialistic society. (as did the early Christians under Roman empire) The world has its values, but they are not the values of Jesus. We are called to be witnesses of Jesus. We are called to be a light in darkness. We are called to value the spiritual and not emphasize the goods and values of the world. Jesus gives us depth to us in a world of superficial values.
But it is important to know that money, and goods are not evil in themselves. Jesus challenges us to think about what we most value, what is the center of our daily life, what we put most emphasis on.
The advertisement and programs of our TV reflect the values of society, food, beauty products, comfortable living. What is the god of Mammon today? More money, stocks, goods, the company one work for, and some make a sports team their god, some their hobby, some curiosity into SNS, and one’s comfort.
Again these things are NOT EVIL – but Jesus calls us how do we use them. Have they become the most important thing in our day?
Jesus challenges us to put God first. Is God our Number One? Do we put Jesus first? Which road to we choose to walk?
In today’s parable Jesus is NOT commending the path which the unjust steward takes. Jesus is challenging us to put as much energy and effort into walking the path that Jesus shows us.
Let us look at some concrete ways to walk the path of Jesus.
- We need to keep in contact with Jesus who walks beside us on life’s journey. In other words, prayer is absolutely necessary. In the morning let us greet Jesus and tell him that we want to walk with him today.
- In the evening, let us thank Jesus for all that he has given us during the day. If we have something that we sinned, tell Jesus : “I am sorry.”Long prayer is not necessary. Use your own words. We are talking to a friend. The contact is important.
- Let us think of the poor. How can we help?
