聖書： 列王記下 5：14-17 詩編98 ２テモテ 2：8-１3 ルカ 17:11-19
荒れ野で40日間過ごした後、イエスは故郷ナザレに戻ります。ここでイエスは、神はすべての人間を愛しておられるという良い知らせを伝えるために来たことを明らかにします。
当時のユダヤ教の指導者たちは非常に排他的でした。神は選ばれた者だけを愛し、それ以外の者、つまり外国人は神に見捨てられたと説いていました。天からの使者であるイエスは、これは嘘で、神はご自身が創造されたすべての人間を愛しておられると説きました。今日の第一朗読のシリアから来たナアマンの物語でも、次のように語られています。預言者エリシャの時代にイスラエルには多くのらい病患者がいました。しかし、神によって癒されるために選ばれたのは、ユダヤ人ではない異教徒、外国人であるナアマンでした。
福音の中で、イエスは10人の皮膚病患者を癒します。しかし、イエスに感謝するために戻ってきたのは一人だけでした。彼は異国、サマリアから来ました。ユダヤ人とサマリア人は犬猿の仲でした。その時代のユダヤ人の指導者たちは排他的で、自分たちは神に選ばれ、異教徒は神に忘れられたと教えました。イエスは、これは間違っている、神は創造されたすべての生き物を愛していると教えています。これは良い知らせです。
そうです、神はユダヤ人を特別な民として選ばれました。しかし、神は彼らをエリート集団、排他的な集団として選んだのではありません。神は、神から与えられた賜物を、ほかの人と分かち合うために選ばれたのです。
この大切な教えを自分自身に当てはめてみましょう。イエスは私たちを選び、賜物を注ぎ、イエスの道を歩むように教えてくださいました。これによって、日々の生活に意義、目的、平安、そして味わいが与えられます。私たちはイエスから賜物を授かっています。そして、その賜物の目的は、それを他の人々と分かち合うことです。
私たち日本のクリスチャンは、暗闇の中の光となり、私たちが住む社会に味（塩）を与えるためにイエスに選ばれました。
イエスはこのような願いをされるとき、常にその願いに応えるための助けと導きを与えてくださいます。福音の証し人として、私たちは決して一人で働くことはありません。イエスは私たちの力です。
私たちも選ばれた者です。イエスはこう言われました。「あなたがたが私を選んだのではない。私があなたがたを選んだ。あなたがたが出かけて行って実を結び、その実が残るようにと」（ヨハネ15:16）
私たちは分かち合うために選ばれたのです。
今日の福音に戻りましょう。10人の男が皮膚病を癒されましたが、感謝するために戻ってきたのはたった一人だけでした。イエスは「ほかの9人はどこにいるのか。」と聞きました。私たちは、イエスに感謝しているでしょうか？自分がどれほど恵まれているかに気づいているでしょうか？
人生で起こった良いことを思い起こしましょう。「ありがとう」と言いましょう。そして、毎日、経験した小さな良いことについても思いを巡らせましょう。そして毎晩、イエス様に「ありがとう」と言いましょう。（翻訳担当：T）

Scripture: 2Kings 5:14-17; Psalm 98; 2 Timothy 2:8-13; Luke 17:11-19
After 40 days in the desert, Jesus returns to his home town Nazareth. Here Jesus tells us that he has come to proclaim the Good News that God loves every human being. The Jewish leaders at that time were very exclusive. God only loved the chosen. Others, foreigners, were cast aside by God. Jesus as the messenger from Heaven said that this was a lie. God loves every human he erected. Jesus says that there were many lepers in Israel at the time of Elisha, the prophet. But a non-Jew, a pagan, a foreigner was chosen by God to be cured. His name was Naaman. The story of Naaman who come from Siria is told in the first scripture reading.
In the Gospel Jesus cures the skin disease of 10 men. Only one comes back to thank Jesus. He is from the foreign country, Samaria. Jews and Samaritans were like a dog and a monkey! The leaders of the Jews at the time of Jews were exclusive. These leaders taught that God has chosen them. The pagans God has forgotten. Jesus tells us that this is wrong. God loves every creature he created. That is Good News!
Yes, God did choose the Jews as his special people. But God chose them, not to be an elite, exclusive group. God chose them to share the gift that God has given them.
Let us apply this very important teaching to ourselves. Jesus has chosen us. Jesus has poured out his gifts to us. Jesus has taught us to walk his path. This gives our everyday life meaning, purpose, peace and taste. We have been gifted by Jesus. The purpose of those gifts is to share them with others.
We Christians in Japan are chosen by Jesus to be a light in darkness, to give a taste(salt) to the society in which we live.
When Jesus gives a request like this, Jesus always gives the help and guidance to reply to that request. As witnesses to the Good News, we never work alone. Jesus is our strength.
We too are chosen. Jesus says: “You did not choose me, I chose you and appointed you that you should go and to bear fruit.” (John 15:16) We are chosen to share.
In the Gospel 10 men were cured of the skin disease. But only one come back to thank Jesus. Jesus said “Where are the nine?” Do we realize how gifted we are? Do we thank Jesus?
Let us call to mind the good things that have happened in our lives. Let us say ‘thank you’. But also, each day let us reflect on the little good things that we have experienced. Each night let us say ‘thank you’ to Jesus.
