聖書： イザヤ 35：1-10 詩編146 ヤコブ 5：7-10 マタイ 11:2-11
有名で信頼できる聖書学者、バーナバス・アハーンは、聖書を読む人々のためにこれを書きました。
「もしも、わたしたちが
神のことを大昔のものとして
考えているならば……。
もしも、イエス のことを、
昔 パレスチナの地に
生きていた者としてのみ
考えているならば……。
わたしたちは、
まだ、まだ、
聖書的な生き方をしていない、
聖書は神の現代へのメッセージ
神は、
常に、
今、
この場に
おられるのだ。」
イザヤ書には「喜び」という言葉が7回出てきます。 私たち人間は苦しみの中で、どうして喜びを味わえるでしょうか？ 私たちの神、イエス様は、人間の苦しみを体験してくださったので、私たちを理解し、深く愛してくださいます。 私たちが苦しみの中に居る時こそ、その愛は私たちの心に深く刻まれ宿り、神から与えられた喜びという恵みを経験します。 それは、普通の喜びとは違い、より深い喜びなのです。
この大事な教えを今日のイザヤ書35章1-10節にみてみましょう。
イザヤがこの預言を記した当時（紀元前8世紀）、敵対するアッシリア軍がエルサレムに迫っていました。 エルサレムの人々は、まるで守りのない砂漠にいるかのような思いに駆られ、「神はどこにいるのか」と叫びました。 神の代弁者であるイザヤは、神からの希望のメッセージを生き生きと伝えます。 「心おののく人々に言え。 『雄々しくあれ。恐れるな。見よ、あなたたちの神を。敵を打ち、悪に報いる神が来られる。神は来て、あなたたちを救われる。』 砂漠よ、喜び、花を咲かせよ。」
これらの言葉は2800年前に神が語ったものです。 神は今日も私たちに同じ励ましの言葉をかけてくださいます。（これはアハーンが述べている聖書的な考え方です。）
ですから、不安や心配、心の傷、寂しさ、あるいは何らかの苦しみを感じているなら、この言葉をよく考えてみましょう。 イエスは、この預言の実現です。 イエスは、私たち一人ひとりに、生きた声でこの慰めの言葉を語ってくださいます。
今日のイザヤ書の後半では、救い主が来られることが約束されています。 救い主は、目の見えない人、聞こえない人、口の利けない人、そして歩けない人を癒してくださいます。
福音書の中で、洗礼者ヨハネの弟子たちはイエスに尋ねます。 「来るべき方は、あなたでしょうか。」 イエスは聖書的な答えを彼らに与えます。
「イザヤが預言したように、目の見えない人、耳の聞こえない人、足の不自由な人は癒される。 そうだ、私が救世主だ。」
私たち自身の心を正直に見つめましょう。 私たちの近くにいる人たちの苦しみ、そして戦争によって苦しんでいる人たちの心を考えてみましょう。
私たちがその誕生日を祝う救い主に、祈りの中で叫びましょう。

A famous and reliable Scripture scholar, called Barnabas Ahern wrote this for those reading Scripture.
“When we read the Bible, if perhaps we are thinking of what God has done as something which happened only in the long distant past………. And perhaps if we are thinking of what Jesus did in Palestine as something which happened only when Jesus lived there………. “
If we have these kinds of ideas, we are far, far away from the Biblical Way of thinking. The Bible gives us God’s message in a living voice. “God is for all ages living and speaking to in this place NOW.”
The word ‘joy’ appears 7 times in the Isaiah reading. How can we humans possibly taste joy when we are suffering? Our God, Jesus, who experienced human suffering loves us very much – especially when we suffer. That love enters into our suffering heart and we experience the God-given gift of joy. It is different and deeper than ordinary joy.
Let us apply this important teaching to today’s reading from Isaiah 35:1-10.
At that time when Isaiah wrote this prophecy the hostile Assyrian army was approaching Jerusalem (BC8c). The people of Jerusalem felt as if they were in a desert with no protection. “Where was God” they cried. As the spokesman for God Isaiah gives them a living voice message of hope from God: “Say to those whose hearts are frightened, ‘Be strong, fear not. Here is your God, who comes to save you’. The desert of your hearts will bloom with life.”
Those words were said by God 2800 years ago. God says the same words of encouragement to us today. (This is the Biblical way of thinking as Ahern describes.)
So, if you feel anxiety, worry, hurt, loneliness or any suffering ponder those words. Jesus, the fulfillment of that prophecy says these words of comfort in a living voice to each of us.
In the 2nd half of today’s Isaiah, a savior is promised. The savior, when he comes, will cure the blind, deaf, mutes, lane.
In the Gospel John the Baptist’s followers ask Jesus: “Are you the promised savior.” Jesus gives them a biblical based answer.
“The blind, the deaf, the lane are cured as Isaiah prophesied, yes I am the savior.”
Let us look honestly into own heart, and let us consider the suffering of people we know, and those who are suffering through War.
Let us cry out in prayer to our savior whose birthday we celebrate. “COME LORD JESUS.”
