今日の第２朗読の聖パウロと一緒に、私たちも祈りましょう：「私は、私の主、キリスト・イエスを知ることの最高の素晴らしさに勝るものは何も無いと信じています。」
自分自身と向き合い、正直に自問してみましょう：「私は本当にイエスを知っているだろうか？ イエスをもっと深く知ろうとしているだろうか？」
これらは重要な質問です！
四旬節の第３日曜日と第４日曜日、イエスは、神が喜んで私たちを許してくださる、と教えています（ 第３日曜日：いちじくの木が実るのを待つ、第４日曜日：放蕩息子と彼を許し歓迎する父親 ）。今日の第５日曜日、イエスはこの優しい教えを、具体的な行動で示します。
イエスは砂に指で何を書いたのでしょうか。多くの聖書学者が推測しています。個人的には「神は愛である」だと思います。（ケンズの意見です！）
今日の福音書で、私たちの神、イエスが人間の弱さを理解していることがわかります。「神様！ごめんなさい。」と言う人を、イエスは喜んで許します。
今日の福音書の場面で、私たちは、イエスが私たちに対して示してくださる、理解、思いやり、無条件の愛を目にします。
でも、ある人々は、福音書でイエスは、大罪人に対してのみ愛を示していると言います。例えば、今日の福音書の、姦淫を犯した女や、放蕩息子などです。これについて、教会は私たちに、イエスの言葉を、文脈や当時の言葉の使い方に当てはめるよう教えています。ある言葉が、今日その言葉を私たちが使う使い方より、広い意味を持って使われていることがよくあります。
例えば、「あなたの敵を愛しなさい」
福音書では、「敵」とは、本当に憎む人から、意見の合わない人までを意味します。
同様に、イエスが大罪の人を許すとき、いわゆる小さな罪を犯した人も許されているのです。私たちは皆、誰でもイエスの優しい言葉を受け取ることができます。
いわゆる小さな罪、例えば、「私は人を裁いていないか？ 毎日祈ってイエスと触れ合っているだろうか？ 自分中心で、特に自分のことばかり考え、他人のことなど考えてないのではないか？ 私を傷つけた人を許しているだろうか？ 恨みを持っていないだろうか？ありのままの自分を受け入れているだろうか？私は高慢でないだろうか？ 他人を助けているだろうか？ 暗闇の中の光であるキリストの証人となっているだろうか？」などなど。
イエスは私たちに赦しの秘跡を与えてくださいました。私たちの罪が神の力によって消し去られる、具体的なしるしです。この美しい秘跡で、慈悲深いイエスのもとに行きましょう。
司祭を通してイエスは私たちにこう言っています：「平和のうちに行きなさい。あなたの罪は赦されました！」
5th Sunday LENT Year C 6/4/25
Scripture: Isaiah 43:16-21; Psalm 126; Philippians 3:8-14; John 8:1-11
Let us too pray with St. Paul (today’s 2nd reading). “I believe that nothing can happen that will outweigh the supreme advantage of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord.”
Let us face ourselves and honestly ask ourselves: “Do I really know Jesus? Do I want to know Jesus in a deeper way?” These are important questions!
In the 3rd and 4th Sunday of Lent Jesus taught us that God gladly forgives us (3rd. Waiting for the fig tree to fruit, 4th. The prodigal Son and Forgiving and welcoming Father.) Today the 5th Sunday Jesus puts this gentle teaching into concrete actions.
What did Jesus write with his finger in the sand. Many scripture scholars make a guess. Personally I think it would be “GOD is LOVE.” (a Cairns’ opinion!)
In today’s Gospel we see Jesus, our God, as one who understands human weakness. Jesus forgives, so happily, those who say “My God! I am sorry.” In today’s scene we see the understanding, compassion and unconditional love of Jesus for us today.
But some say that in the Gospels Jesus only shows his love for BIG sinners. For example, the adulterous woman today, and the prodigal son! But the church tells us to put Jesus’ words into the context and the way words were understood in those times. So often a word had a wider meaning than the way we use that word today.
For example: “Love your enemy” In the Gospel “enemy” means from someone one really hates, fight down to someone one disagrees with. Likewise, when Jesus forgives BIG SINNERS, those who commit so called LITTLE SINS are included. All of us can receive the gentle word of Jesus.
So called LITTLE SINS, for example: “Do I judge people? Do I keep in contact with Jesus by praying every day? Am I self-centered, thinking especially of myself and not others? Do I forgive people who hurt me? Do I have a grudge? Do I accept myself as-I-am? Am I proud? Do I help others? Am I a witness for Christ- a light in darkness? Etc. etc.
Jesus has given us the Sacrament of Forgiveness as a concrete sign that our sins are wiped out by God’s power. Let us go to Jesus, so full of compassion, in this beautiful sacrament. Through the priest Jesus says to us: “Go in peace! Your sins are forgiven.”
