聖書：使徒言行録 5：27-41；詩編 30；黙示録 5：11-14；ヨハネ 21：1-19
イエスはひとりひとりに「あなたは私を愛しているか」
まず、私の経験をお話ししましょう。何年も前、ある教区に教会活動にとても熱心な女性がいました。彼女はとても衝動的で、よく考えもせずに唐突に話したり、行動したりしていました。それが私を苛立たせていました。そんな時、今日の詩編 30篇にあるように、「主は私を助けに来られました」。
聖ペテロもとても衝動的でしたが、イエスは彼を、ありのままに受け入れられたことに気づきました。こうして私は、イエスの人間性に深く触れ、以前は苛立ちを感じた教会の女性も受け入れました。そして、聖ペテロの弟子になったのです。
有名な人物の生涯について書かれた古い書物では、その人の良い点だけが語られ、悪い点は書かれないものですが、福音書は違います。そして、それには重要な理由があります。ペテロは、彼のあらゆる欠点、イエスを知らないと言った大きな罪さえも、すべてさらけ出されています。その理由はこうです。ペテロは、私たちがイエスの道を歩むための励ましとして、詳細に記されているのです。イエスに深く愛されたペテロも、私たちと同じように弱い人間なのです。今日、イエスは私たちにも同じ愛の態度を示してくださいます。イエスは私たちを、ありのままに受け入れてくださいます。
最後の晩餐で、ペテロは衝動的に、イエスが自分の足を洗うことを拒否しました。その後、ペテロはイエスに、たとえ他の 11人の弟子たちがイエスを裏切っても、自分は決して 裏切らないと告げます。「私は死に至るまであなたに忠実です」と。でも、その数時間後、ペテロはイエスを知らないし、イエスと何のつながりもないと否定します。ペテロはこの否定を 3回繰り返します。
イエスはペテロに、自分の過ちによって、失敗する他の人々への共感を得るだろうと告げます。ペテロは神の愛の模範であり、励ましとなるでしょう。イエスが苦しみを受けている間、ペテロのそばを通り過ぎた時、「イエスは振り返り、ペテロをじっと見つめ」（ルカ 22:61）ました。その理解と愛に満ちたまなざしが、ペテロを救ったのです。
これが今日の福音書の背景です。ペテロは、イエスを知っていることさえ 3度否定しま した。それに先立つ今日の福音の場面で、イエスはペテロに 3度「あなたは私を愛しているか」と尋ねます。一度は「あなたは他の弟子たちよりも私を愛しているか」と尋ねます。イエスはペテロに、そして今日の私たちに、自分を他人と比較してはならないと告げているのです。
今日の福音書の最後の部分で、イエスはペテロにこう告げています。「あなたは今、自由に行動できるが、年老いてからは制限を受ける。だから、その老いた時に備えてもう一度 言う。『わたしに従ってきなさい。』」
この福音書は私たちへの挑戦です。自問自答してみましょう。
１）自分の失敗や欠点を受け入れているでしょうか？他の人の失敗を受け入れているでしょうか？
２）自分を他の人と比べているでしょうか？
３）自分の弱さを認めているでしょうか？イエスの道を歩むには、助け、力、そして導きが必要です。祈りの中で、これらの助けを求めているでしょうか？
４）年老いていく時、自分の限界を受け入れているでしょうか？イエスは再び私たちにこう言われます：「わたしに従ってきなさい。」
５）イエスは私たち一人一人の名前を呼び、「あなたは私を愛しているか？」と尋ねます。私はどのように答えるでしょうか？
６）神の愛と受け入れを他の人と分かち合っているでしょうか？
3rd Sunday Easter Year C 4/5/25
Scripture: Acts 5:27-41; Psalm 30; Rev. 5:11 -14; John 21:1-19
Firstly, I share with you an experience of mine. Many years ago, in the parish there was a very active woman in church work.
She was very impetuous. She used to say and do things suddenly without thinking. This used to annoy me. Then as in today’s Psalm 30: “The Lord came to my help.” I realized that St. Peter was very impetuous, but Jesus accepted him as-he was. So I met Jesus in his humanity in a deeper way. I also accepted the worker. I became a fen of St. Peter.
In ancient writings about the life of a famous person, only that person’s good points are told. The bad points are not mentioned. The Gospels are different —and for an important reason. Peter is portrayed with all his faults. Even his big sin of denying that he ever knew Jesus. The reason is this. Peter is given to us in detail as encouragement as we walk the path of us. Jesus accepts us as-Jesus. Peter, so loved by Jesus, is a weak human just like us. Jesus, today, takes the same loving attitude towardswe-are.
At the Last Supper Peter, in his impetuous way, refuses to have his feat washed. Then later Peter tells Jesus that even if the other 11 disciples will betray Jesus, he NEVER will betray. “I will be faithful to you till death.” A few hours later Peter denies that he knows Jesus or has any connection to Jesus. Peter repeats this denial 3 times.
Jesus tells Peter that his fall will give him a fellow feeling for others who fall. Peter will be both an example and encouragement of God’s love. During the sufferings of Jesus when he passes Peter, ‘Jesus turns and looks deeply at Peter ‘(Luke 22:61). That look of understanding and love saved Peter.
That is the background to today’s Gospel. Peter denied 3 times that he even knew Jesus. Jesus asks Peter 3 times “Do you love me?”. Once “Do you love me more than the other disciples?” Jesus is telling Peter, and us today that we should not compare ourselves to others.
In the last part of today’s Gospel Jesus tells Peter this: “You have a freedom of movement now, but when you grow old you will have restrictions. So for your old age I say again ‘Come follow me’”
This Gospel gives us a challenge. Ask self:
1 ) Do I accept my own failings and faults? Do I accept failings of others?
2) Do I compare myself to others?
3 ) Do I acknowledge that I am weak? I need help, strength and guidance to walk Jesus’ path. Do I ask for this help in prayer?
4 ) If getting old, do I accept my limitations? Jesus says again to us ‘Come, follow me’
5 ) Jesus calls each of us by name and says: “OOO Do you love me?” How do I answer.
6 ) Do I share God’s love and acceptance with others?
