「わたしは平和をあなたがたに残し わたしの平和をあなたがたへ与える」
今日は2つの点を強調したいと思います。まず、2つの質問を自分自身に問いかけてみてください。
① 何かを決めるとき（たとえ小さな決断であっても！）、聖霊の導きを求めているでしょうか？イエスの教えを理解できるよう聖霊に導きを求めているでしょうか？これが最初の質問です！使徒言行録には、使徒たちがどのように決断を下したかが記されています。
「聖霊と私たちは、決めました。」これは私たちの模範です。たとえ小さな決断をする時でも、常にまず聖霊の導きを求めましょう。聖霊は喜んでこの賜物を与えてくださいます。
福音書の中で、イエスは弟子たちと現代の私たちにこう語っています。「父がわたしの名によってお遣わしになる聖霊が、あなたがたにすべてのことを教え、わたしが話したことをことごとく思い起こさせてくださる。」洗礼前の講座で学んだこと聞いたことをすべて覚えたり、理解したりすることはできません。不可能です！聖霊に少しずつ教えてくださるよう祈りましょう。私は司祭として、神学校で7年間神学を学びました。それでもなお、聖霊の導きを求めなければなりません。私はいつも「聖霊よ、来てください」と祈ります。聖霊の導きは、聖なるものの中だけでなく、普段の生活の中でも働きます。
② 二つ目の問いはこれです。自分自身に問いかけてみましょう。私は自分の心、そして家族、学校、職場において、真の平和を求めていますか。イエスは生き生きとした声でこう語っています。「わたしは平和を残し、わたしの平和をあなたがたに与える。」イエスが与えてくださるのは平和です。しかし、表面的な「世の平和」と言われているものではありません。当時、ローマ皇帝はヨーロッパ全土と中東を支配していました。その支配は人々や国家を奴隷にしました。戦争はありませんでしたが、真の自由はありませんでした。それが真の平和なのでしょうか？いいえ！イエスの平和は心のためのものです。それは贈り物です。純粋な贈り物です。私たちは、自ら私たちのための平和を作り出すことは
できませんが、この素晴らしい贈り物を受け入れるために心を備えることはできます。アッシジの聖フランチェスコは「平和の祈り」を書き記しました。この祈りの精神は、私たち人間が自己中心性を捨て、常に他者のために考え、行動することにあります。そうすれば、平和という報いが与えられます。この祈りを通して、私たちはイエスの助け、力、そして導きを求め、私たちの人生において現実となるように願うのです。聖アウグスティヌスは、「主よ、私たちは御心のために造られ、私たちの心は、あなたを見つけるまで休むことができません。」と祈りました。
毎日、聖霊の導きを求めましょう。「聖霊よ、来てください」という短い祈りから始めましょう。
キリストの平和の道具となりましょう。

Scripture: Acts 15:1-2,22-29; Psalm 67; Revelation 21:10-14,22-23; John 14:23-29
Today I would like to stress 2 points. I would introduce these points by asking 2 questions. Ask yourself:
① Do I ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit when I make a decision? (even a small decision!) Do I ask the Holy Spirit to teach me to understand the teachings of Jesus. That is the first question! In the scripture reading from Acts we read how the apostles made a decision. We read: “The Holy Spirit and us have decided.” This is our example. Even in small decisions let us always first ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit. The Spirit gladly gives this gift.
In the Gospel Jesus tells his disciples and us today! “The Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you everything and remind you of all I have told you.” We cannot remember or appreciate everything that we heard in our pre-baptism course – impossible! Let us ask the Holy Spirit to teach us bit by bit. I, as priest, studied theology for 7 years in the seminary. I still must ask the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A shot prayer is: “Come Holy Spirit.” This guidance is not just for holy things – everyday life too.
② The second question is this. Let us ask ourselves, do I want to feel real peace in my heart – and in our family, school and workplace? Jesus says to us in a living voice: my peace I leave with you. My peace I give you.” It is the peace that Jesus gives, not the so called ‘peace’ of the world. At that time the Roman Emperor ruled all of Europe and the Middle East. The rule made slaves of people and nations. There was no war, but there was no true freedom. Is that true peace? No! The peace of Jesus is for the heart. It is a gift – pure gift. We cannot create this peace for ourselves, but we can prepare our heart to receive this wonderful gift. St. Francis of Assisi has written a “prayer for peace.” This spirit of this prayer is for us humans to give up self-centeredness and always think and do for others. THAT will be rewarded with peace. In this prayer we ask for the help, strength and guidance of Jesus to put this prayer as a reality in our legality in our lives.
St. Augustin wrote a prayer:
“You have made us for yourself, O Lord, and our hearts cannot find peace until they rest in you.”
Let us every day ask for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. Even the short prayer “Come Holy Spirit” is a start.
Let us be instruments of Christ’s peace.
