聖書：イザヤ66：18〜21；詩編117；ヘブライ12：5-7,11-13、ルカ13：22〜30
私たちはカトリック教会の信者です。「カトリック」という言葉は、ギリシャ語の「すべての人々のため」を意味する言葉から来ています。イエスはすべての人々のためにおられます。
今日の第1朗読、イザヤの預言は私たちにこう告げています：
「主は言われる わたしはすべての国、すべての言葉の民を…（遠い島々から）集めるために臨む。」
私たちは復活された主イエスご自身と出会いました。神様から素晴らしい宝物を与えられました。私たちはこの世で最も恵まれた人です。贈り物を受け取ったら、感謝の言葉を述べるのは当然のことです。私たちの典礼では「感謝の祭儀」、「神に感謝」と言いますね。今日、この言葉の深い意味を、口先で言うのではなく心からかみしめて味わいましょう。
もう一度！イエスに出会うこと、彼と共に人生の道を歩むこと、イエスとの友情を楽しむことは、この世界で受けることが出来る、最も素晴らしい贈り物です。
私はこんな経験をしたことがあります。誕生日にいくつかの贈り物を受けとりました。しかし、たった一つの贈り物が私の心を特別な喜びで満たしました。この贈り物は、私が長い間待ち望んでいたものでした。 私は贈り主への感謝の気持ちで胸が一杯になりました。
今日、そして今週、私たちの神であるイエス様に、その愛と贈り物に対して「ありがとう」と言いましょう。
「神に感謝！」と言い、そしてその言葉の意味を深く味わいましょう。
世界中にいる数百万の人々の中から、神様は私たち一人一人を選び、信仰という特別に美しい贈り物を与えてくださいました。私たちはイエス、すなわち神の御子と出会い、彼と共に人生の道を歩むために選ばれたのです。
自分自身に問いかけてみましょう。「なぜ神は私を選んでくださったのか？」。その答えは重要です。「神様の恵みを分かち合うため」。
イエスのみ言葉によると、私たちは「地の塩、世の光」となる者です。塩が味を与えるように、私たちは出会う人や共に生きる人々に味、喜び、励ましを与えるように求められています。優しさや思いやりが「味」を与えます。そしてまた、私たちは暗闇の中の光となるように求められています。私たちはキリストの光を他の人と分かち合います。この光を示す時、私たちは自分と異なる人や、（付き合うのが）とても難しい人を受け入れます。私たちは他の人を赦します。少なくとも一本のロウソクを灯（とも）しましょう——それは役立ちます。そうすることで、神がすべての人を愛しているという「良い知らせ」を分かち合うことができます。
福音でファリサイ派の人々は、神が彼らを選んだのだから、自分たちは他の人より優れていると考えていました。彼らは広い門から天国に入ることを「勝ち得た」と考えていました！決してそうではありません！東、西、北、南から人々が来て、天国に入るのです。
最後に第２朗読について考えましょう。神に選ばれた者なのに、どうして私たちは苦しみを受けるのでしょうか？神は罰する方ではありません。苦しみは私たちを人として、キリスト者として成長させます。イエス様は私たちを招いておられます。「苦しむ人は皆、わたしのもとに来なさい。わたしはあなたに平和を与える」。（K）
21th Sunday Year C 24/8/25
Scripture: Isaiah 66.18-21 Psalm 117 Hebrews12.5-7,11-13 Luke 13.22-30
We are Christians of the Catholic Church. The word ‘catholic’ comes from a Greek word that means ‘for all people’. Jesus is for everyone.
Today Isaiah prophesy tells us:
“The Lord says this: I am coming to gather the nations of every language…and to distant islands”
We have met the Risen Lord Jesus himself. We have been given by God a wonderful treasure. We are the richest people in the whole world. It is fitting that when we receive a gift we say thank you. In our Liturgy we say: ‘Ceremony of Gratitude’, and : ’Thanks to God’. Today let us ponder the deep meaning of these words-not let them lips only.
Again! To meet Jesus, to walk life’s path with him, to enjoy his friendship is the greatest present we could ever receive in this world.
I have had this experience. I received some presents for my birthday. But one present especially filled my heart with joy. This present was just what I had wanted for a long time.
My heart was filled with gratitude to the giver.
Today, and this week, let us say ‘thank you’ to Jesus, our God, for his love and present.
Let us say : ‘Thanks be to God’ and mean it.
Think of the millions of people in the world. Among them God has chosen each of us and given us the very special and beautiful present of our faith. We have been chosen to meet Jesus, his Son, and walk life’s path with Him.
Let us ask ourselves : ‘Why did God choose me?’. The answer is important : ‘To share God’s gift’.
In the words of Jesus, we are to be salt and light.’ Salt gives taste we are asked to give taste, joy and encouragement to people we meet or live with. Kindness, thoughtfulness gives taste. We are asked to be a light in darkness. We share our light of Christ with other. When we show this light we accept others who are different, or even difficult! We forgive others. Let us shine at least one candle-it helps. In so doing we share the Good News that God loves every person.
In the Gospel the Pharesees thought that because God had chosen them that they were better than others. They thought they earned entering the Kingdom by a wide gate! Not so! People will come from east, west, north, south, and, enter.
Finally in the 2nd reading. If we are chosen by God, why we suffer? God does not punish. Suffering metures us as humans, as Christians. Jesus invites us: “Come to me everyone who suffer. I will give you peace”.
